DFO Awards $2.9M Contract Extension to RV Novus
January 20, 2022 (Dartmouth, Nova Scotia) - LeeWay Marine is pleased to share that the Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO) has granted a one year, $2.9M contract extension for RV Novus. The contract extension will enable RV Novus to continue to support critical habitat research in the Gulf of St. Lawrence (GoS) this summer, using her state-of-the-art Kongsberg EK80 transducers. Additionally, RV Novus will enable the Canadian Hydrographic Service to collect high resolution bathymetric data with her hull-mounted Kongsberg 2040-04 Multibeam Sonar, in the GoS.
“The award of this contract extension for RV Novus speaks to the outstanding capabilities of the platform, as well as the hard work put in by our team over the last two years,” said Jamie Sangster, CEO. “Small-water-plane-area twin hull (SWATH) vessels are extremely unique in design and there’s no doubt in my mind that RV Novus is the most stable near-to-mid shore survey vessel in Canada, if not North America. We are thrilled to continue our work supporting our partners with their critical research needs this summer.”
RV Novus is currently undergoing an end-of-season refit at A.F. Theriault & Sons Ltd. in Meteghan, Nova Scotia, to install equipment that will enable the vessel to conduct additional science work. The vessel is expected to begin seasonal operations in the Gulf of St. Lawrence in May and is available for charter until that time.
